A few weeks ago, my sister stumbled upon a farm market close by our house that we never even knew was there…..I love when that happens! Your Chef’s Table has an on farm market in Brookeville, Maryland where they are focused on sustainably growing healthy and delicious foods. At their market, you can find some of their beautiful produce, as well as their pasture raised chickens and their eggs! What really intrigued me about Your Chef’s Table was their Meal Kits. Every Thursday, you can drop by the farm and pickup a meal kit that is ready to take home and cook for your family. Want to see what they have to offer? Lucky for you I went and purchased two meal kits to give them a try!
I don’t know if you all know this about me, but I am a produce snob. For years I worked alongside my Dad at his store in the produce department. He taught me what to look for in different fruits and vegetables, how to tell if something is fresh, and we would never accept produce to the store that wasn’t up to his standards. Having my Dad’s “produce eyes” has made me extremely picky. So when I tell you that Your Chef’s Table has gorgeous produce, I mean it!
I love that on your way to the market you drive by the fields where the produce is grown and you can of course stop and say hello to the chickens!
Every week the chef/owner Russ Testa creates up to three different meal kit options based on what is in season at that time. They offer meat based meals and also vegetarian options! The week I visited, they were featuring a Tarragon Chicken with Couscous with Kale and Collard Confetti and Cucumber, Squash and Tomato Salad AND a Creamy Broccoli and Cabbage Soup with Spring Lettuce Salad.
The meal kit includes all of the raw ingredients you will need as well as step by step instructions on how to create the recipe. We wanted to try both recipes so we purchased one of each meal kit.
Now it’s time to head home and get cooking!
I have never tried a meal kit before and I LOVED this! I kept saying the whole time we were cooking that this is such a great idea! I might have been a little too excited about it ;). Total foodie here remember!?
The recipes were easy to follow and everything being grown right up the road from us made it really special. There are a lot (and I mean a lot) of different meal kit services out there. It has become quite a trend. I would prefer Your Chef’s Table over any other meal kit service for a few reasons. One, it is much more affordable than those other companies. Two, everything is local to me and I get to see where my food is coming from. Three, I love supporting a small business and local farmer! Four, everything was very fresh.
If you live in or around Montgomery County, Maryland I highly recommend you try these meal kits! If you can’t make it out to their farm on Thursdays, you can meet up with them at one of the areas Farmer’s Markets!
Here is the Cucumber, Squash, and Tomato Salad.
The Tarragon Chicken served with Couscous with Kale and Collard Confetti. So delicious!
The Creamy Broccoli and Cabbage Soup. This soup had such a rich and roasted flavor. We really enjoyed this!
I am so happy that I found out about Your Chef’s Table. I want to thank Russ Testa and his team for creating such a great experience for me and my family. I can’t wait to come back for another meal kit!

Vintage in historic New Market, Maryland is my latest “Tasty Place”. They serve delicious American comfort food that is both seasonal and local. They are located right on Main Street in a beautiful historic building that I find incredibly charming. I knew I had to visit Vintage after my parents went to dinner there and raved about it. The highlight for my Dad being the incredible French Press Coffee. One of his biggest pet peeves, and mine, is when you go to a nice restaurant and the food is great but the coffee is terrible. Is it to much to ask to have a delicious hot cup of coffee after a nice meal? Not at Vintage.
My sister Laura and I went to Vintage for a little sister dessert date. We of course had to order the French Press. Their coffee comes from a local company in Annapolis, Maryland which makes it that much better! For French Press coffee they start by putting coarse ground coffee in the bottom of the press. Hot water is poured over the top, making sure all coffee grinds are wet. The lid is put on and the press is brought to the table. Once delivered to our table, our waitress Lindy told us to wait a few minutes before we pressed the plunger down. This gives the coffee a chance to steep and for the flavors to intensify. Pressing the plunger makes all the coffee grounds go to the bottom of the press and the fresh coffee is ready to pour. Yum! What delicious coffee!
The dessert menu looked fantastic. They make the ice cream in house and are always trying new flavors. The flavors that night were chocolate, vanilla, and a sorbet. They also had chocolate chip, peanut butter oat, and sweet potato pecan cookies. We ordered one cookie in each flavor, chocolate ice cream, and the Magic Pie.
The sweet potato cookie was soft and cake like. Biting into it, it melted in your mouth with flavors like cinnamon and nutmeg with the occasional crunch of a pecan…..now what could be bad about that? The peanut butter oat was probably my favorite. I love peanut butter cookies and the oats were the perfect addition. Now here is the part where I tell you that I am an absolute chocolate chip cookie snob. I am really picky when it comes to them and I didn’t care for this one. It didn’t taste fresh to me and I wanted so bad for it to come out all warm and gooey. That was the only disappointment of the night.
Now onto the chocolate ice cream. Yum! Just yum! Really thick, rich, and creamy. This was the perfect pairing to our cookies.
The Magic Pie was like nothing I have ever had before. A graham cracker crust is filled with a creamy coconut filling, chocolate chips, and walnuts. It was super sweet and rich. I love the combo of coconut and chocolate, so this was the perfect dessert for me. I would love to try and make this!
We really enjoyed our evening at Vintage. The décor was beautiful and it was a great girls night out with Laura. Our waitress Lindy was really nice, attentive, and answered any questions I had. We hope to make it back for dinner!

Casual Gourmet in Glenwood, Maryland is my latest “Tasty Place”. I didn’t even know it existed until my sister started working there. They have the most delicious sandwiches and I am having a lot of fun slowly eating my way through their menu. They have many breads to choose from and they are always fresh. They use high quality meats and cheeses, and also feature Stonewall Kitchen and Robert Rothschild Farms spreads on some sandwiches which add great flavor. Casual Gourmet is both a delicious place to eat and a great place to shop for gourmet food items. The first time I went there I was surprised at how many items they carry. From coffees and teas, to jams and jellies, pastas and soups, you are sure to find something there that is interesting and tasty.
The next sandwich is the Onion Blossom Roast Beef. This sandwich has roast beef, cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, and Robert Rothschild Farms’ onion blossom horseradish mayonnaise. For this sandwich I chose Country White bread. The roast beef pairs so well with the slight spicyness of the horseradish. I am pretty sure they were made for each other.
Now we come to the Mediterranean Vegetable Sandwich. This was a recommendation from my sister for my Mom and it comes with hummus, cucumbers, avocado, muenster cheese, organic spring mix greens, and mayonnaise. She chose the Ancient Grains Ciabatta Baguette and I think that’s one of the best breads they offer. This is a great vegetarian option! My mom did add turkey to hers which was delicious.
Casual Gourmet also offers some items for breakfast. They have croissants and muffins all baked in house every morning. Want something hot? They do sweet and savory crepes as well! I am currently addicted to iced lattes and they have the best. No matter how you like your coffee, hot, cold, or flavored they can make it for you.
Now on to the shopping. So many amazing gourmet food items! I couldn’t even begin to name everything they carry but here are just a few: Artison Olive Oils, and Balsamic Vinegars, Papparadelle’s Pastas, Ancora Coffees, Harney and Son Teas, Maggie and Mary Soups, Stonewall Kitchen, and Robert Rothschild Farms. There is also a big selection of kitchen gadgets and some cookware. It’s the perfect place to shop for the foodie in your life.
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of Casual Gourmet! I will see you at the next Tasty Place!
